Joanne worked for the Honolulu City Clerk's Office for almost 40 years, serving her community.
For over two decades, she also volunteered at numerous organizations including Soka Gakkai International (SGI) as its Publication Bureau Chief for their nationwide magazine and newspaper, as well as its Public Relations coordinator charged with promoting SGI's mission to promote peace and education based on Buddhist humanistic principles.
Joanne was president of the United Nations Association, Hawaii Division. The UNA-USA is a force for change with 175 nationwide community-based chapters and 145 affiliate organizations dedicated to building public support for constructive US leadership.
She was also a founding member of the Dr. Sun Yatsen Foundation board. Its mission is to educate the local and international community about Dr. Sun's Hawaii ties and Hawaii's contributions to the founding of modern China.
Joanne contributed her talents to numerous organizations including the Sons and Daughters of the 442 and the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii. Most recently she was knighted as a Dame of the Knights of St. John for her humanitarian work.
Joanne currently volunteers for the Love Peace Harmony Center Hawaii, and is a student of Master Zhi Gang Sha.
